Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important representative stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
